Hi fiction lover! I’ve been wandering the streets of Singapore, visiting family and refilling my creative well! Have you been taking time to refill as well? It could be hard, when you’re focused on pumping out more—more stories, more content, and more hours dedicated to your craft. But it’s very important to take in different content that you’re inspired by. I’ve been inspired lately by Yeonjun’s Mixtape: GGUM. The song is great—infectious, quirky, and an all around vibe. But the Making Film is what really sold me on the song and the creative direction behind it. All three parts of the Making Film are a vibe and are definitely worth watching for all creatives!
The Making of Yeonjun’s Mixtape: GGUM

In all three Making Films, we see Yeonjun from his mixtape’s conception stage, all the way to the final product. He expresses joy in being able to go solo, but at the same time a lot of stress surrounds him. What will his fans think of the song? Will it live up to expectations? We get a close look at the recording process, along with the lyric writing which I’m a particular fan of. All in all, we get a lot of moments of hesitation and even pain as Yeonjun gives life to a masterpiece.
We get a look at Yeonjun’s hectic schedule. Even in the middle of touring for ACT: PROMISE, he is coming up with lyrics. Even while exhausted, he brainstorms in his hotel room and puts the hours in. We also take a look at an online meeting. (Who knew that I would relate so much to the Zoom calls?) I LOVED the moments when Yeonjun’s eyes would light up, and he knew he got the right lyric that skips effortlessly across the beat.
In the third Making Film, Yeonjun admits to crying before the day of his music video shoot. He lets out a lot of his worries on camera. Will he be able to shoot past midnight? Despite his worries, he tells himself to go to sleep. And during the shooting, he brings all of his energy and acting skills to the forefront.
How to Also Hit That GGUM?
The Making of Yeonjun’s Mixtape: GGUM reminded me a lot of my creative process. There is a spark when you know that you have the right idea. But during the process, there could be a lot of uncertainty.
There is a moment in the Making Film when Yeonjun listens to his music so much that he begins to be unable to distinguish what actually sounds good. Could that be you and me in our creative moments? Perhaps we are too lost within our story, and every sentence begins to sound the same. I know I’ve been there.
When Yeonjun is learning the choreography for “GGUM,” he gets to meet a dance crew that will accompany him in his scenes. WE DEM BOYZ played a major role in supporting Yeonjun’s performance. Perhaps we can learn from this. We can reach out, not necessarily to background dancers, but to others who can support us in our creative lives. Being lost in a fictional world is tempting and comfortable, but speaking it out with others who know what it’s like to storytell can be eye opening. Perhaps you can treat these people too, much like how Yeonjun bought drinks for the dance crew!
To Yeonjun: keep showing your true colors! And to you, reader, I hope you are also inspired to take a leap on that project—whatever it may be. I hope you will join me in my blog again! Thank you for exploring fandom, stories, and more with me.
