Hi, fiction lover! To be honest, I’ve been really slacking on keeping up with K-dramas. I definitely watched quite a few in 2020 and 2021, but for some reason, in recent years, I didn’t find one that sparked my interest. When I was scrolling through Facebook (yes, I still use it sometimes!), I came across a clip of Weak Hero. It was a touching scene with the two main characters in Class 1. My heart fluttered, and then I rushed to check it out! So, here is my Weak Hero K-drama review. Just a warning. This one is going to have spoilers. So, please read this at another time if you’re still watching or planning to watch!
Weak Hero K-drama Review: Class 1

We’re brought into the world of Yeon Sieun, who is just trying to live his life and ace his classes as the top student in his high school. When the nefarious bullies of his class drug him, he stabs one with his pen, pulverizes the other through the curtains, and almost takes out Ahn Suho—our chill and sleepy MMA-retired student. Fortunately, Suho doesn’t die via chair, and Sieun takes a liking to him.
Without a doubt, the best part of Class 1 is Sieun and Suho’s moments. They don’t know each other for very long, but they end up being willing to die for each other. The Facebook post I saw initially showed the scene of Suho teaching Sieun how to fight. Suho pushing Sieun’s fists against his cheeks is what did it for me! I love a good interaction between an outgoing character and one who appears cold on the outside.
The scenes with Oh Beomseok, the final part of Class 1’s trio, are heartbreaking. Beomseok really shows what it’s like to react to bullies in a very different way than Sieun. He wants to be a good friend, but he just can’t overcome his insecurity and ghosts. I just wish there were more moments of Beomseok having a good time with Sieun and Suho.
With every episode, it seems that someone is getting pummeled and one (or all) of the three main characters are about to die. It’s quite the wild ride.
My favorite scene by far is when Sieun finally smiles in episode four. The fact that only Suho brings it out of him makes my heart explode with adoration.
Park Jihoon, who plays Sieun, has the most sparkling eyes. I don’t know if edits were done to his eyes, but it always looks like he is about to cry. He definitely stares off into space multiple times, but for some reason that always makes the scene satisfying. We love a good contemplative character who speaks through his eyes!
After finishing the first season, I couldn’t wait to watch Class 2! Fortunately, it’s already out and I was ready to dive right in.
Weak Hero K-drama Review: Class 2 — Can Things Get Crazier?

Class 2 introduces us to a whole new cast, although we still have Sieun as our lead. We have Seo Juntae, the one who is bullied but shows his quiet strength and determination. Then we have Park Humin, who is basically the protector of Sieun’s new school. He’s accompanied by Go Hyuntak, who always dishes out some awesome kicks despite an injury. Na Baekjin is the leader of a school gang called the Union. He’s joined by Geum Seongje. Lastly, we have Choi Hyoman who is one of the bullies at Sieun’s school.
Fortunately, Park Jihoon’s eye-acting remains largely the same! In my opinion, Class 1 has more stunning eye scenes, but I love the crazed look that Sieun gets when he’s confronting these new bullies.
Notably, Sieun is much more willing to throw hands in this season. I guess because Suho is in the hospital, he’s punching people like no tomorrow. Just like in the first season, I always feel like someone is going to die or at least end up in the hospital.
I love how Sieun makes three new friends: Baku (Humin), Juntae, and Gotak (Hyuntak). I especially love the scenes when he’s volunteering and wearing a costume as a king. The misery on his face is just hilarious (sorry, Sieun!).
The Union plot makes Class 2 pretty busy. There are just so many characters, and the Union guys are always causing trouble. But Baekjin does a stunning job of being intimidating and a worthy foe of Sieun and his friends.
I love the theme of found family in this season. It really feels like Sieun is finding his people. Whenever he visits Suho, my heart hurts and I wish for Suho to wake up.
The scene of their reunion is a masterpiece. I love Suho casually saying that it’s good that Sieun has some friends. Though the scene is brilliant, I’m left wanting more from the two stars of Class 1, but maybe we’ll get that in the next season?
Anticipations for Class 3!
The hinting of a new season comes across pretty strongly! What do you expect if a new season comes out for Weak Hero? One thing that I need to mention in my Weak Hero K-drama review is that Sieun must, must laugh with his full belly in the next season. I am talking about cracking up. I don’t want his character to change, but I’m very interested to see what he looks like laughing.
I would love to see Suho interacting with Sieun’s new friends! Maybe we’ll have some clashing there? Suho does seem like a chill guy, so maybe he’ll fit right in.
I don’t know how it could possibly get more crazy than Class 2, though. I mean, if Sieun has to go through any more suffering, I don’t think I can take it. I heard that the next season might explore deeper social issues? I would love to see Sieun using the full extent of his brain power to show bullies who’s in charge.
Did you enjoy this Weak Hero K-drama review? What K-drama would you like me to check out next? Right now, I’m checking out Flower Crew: Joseon Marriage Agency. It also features Park Jihoon, but he’s playing a very different role—much cuter and sassier. It’s quite lovely! Follow me on my blog for more posts about fiction and fandom!
