TXT Huening Kai — Our Penguin is in a Band?

Hi fiction lover! I am back with the final installment of my TOMORROW X TOGETHER series, where I introduce every member. Don’t worry, this is definitely not my last post on TXT! I will try to incorporate more about storytelling with the guys’ music and universe. I am very excited! Anyway, we are here to talk about the diamond maknae, Huening Kai! I can’t explain all of the various talents that TXT Huening Kai has, but I’ll try my best. Born in 2002 in Honolulu, Hawaii, he is actually from the same state as me. Isn’t that fate?

Fall in Love With TXT Huening Kai

First off we have to talk about Huening Kai’s destiny to become a star. Starting off, his dad was a popular singer in China. Can we talk about the genes? His father is Brazilian American, and his mother is Korean. That makes Huening Kai the only foreign member of TXT! However, he came to Korea at a young age—when he was eight years old. That doesn’t mean that it came without struggles. In fact, he said that he struggled a lot with the language barrier. However, he completely overcame it and now is as fluent as the other members. Moving onto his talented siblings, his older sister, Lea, was a part of the K-pop group VIVA. And his younger sister, Bahiyyih, is a part of the girl group Kep1er. We stan a talented star, and music and performance definitely runs through his family. Huening Kai and his sisters often make challenge videos together, which is always a delight to see.

Although Huening Kai is a chill and introverted person off camera, and he often describes himself as timid, he is a beast on stage and will not compromise on his stage presence. Take this video evidence in his performance of “Growing Pain.” I’ve never wanted to be smacked by a guitar more in my life. And his rich, thick voice often sounds like it has a built-in enhancement. Take his magnetic voice in “Blue Spring,” where he uses a powerful tone. And his producing credits? Don’t get me started on the achievements he has as a producer. No wonder he is called the diamond maknae.

When he isn’t practicing an instrument or playing a mobile game (he has the highest screen time of the group), he is busy loving on his members. In fact, he seems to have mastered the art of aegyo, or acting cute for the camera and to the delight of MOA. You should look at this for evidence. Then again, he does have a loud side with his members, which you might witness with his famous dolphin scream. However, when alone he is often quiet. In fact, he does not like to approach people, but that didn’t hold him back from auditioning to be a singer songwriter.

Give Me More Dolphin Screams!

I definitely have to talk about Huening Kai’s latest variety show, where he forms a band and lives out his childhood dreams of playing in one. He shows off his drumming skills, confirming that he is very talented with instruments and can definitely thrive in the band life. It’s also amazing to see him visit a university campus and try out that college life. Check it out here!

Huening Kai’s band influence runs strong, and we can see that in his various covers. He often says that he prefers to belt or shout out with his voice, which we can see in his appearance on Lee Mujin Service. His vocals have only grown more rich and strong over the years, and his cover of Benson Boone’s “Ghost Town” will blow you away. Of course, we can’t forget the iconic covers of “Youngblood” and “Sk8er Boi.” If you want a throwback, check out the “Let Me Love You” cover from 2016. His tone has definitely matured a lot, but he no doubt had the voice from all the way back then.

There is so much more to talk about with TXT Huening Kai! I would like to finish by saying that he caught my attention with his first introduction video, with the iconic yellow palette and the addicting video cuts and background music. If it wasn’t for that video, maybe I wouldn’t have fallen for TXT? But maybe a part of me knew that he definitely looked like a Hawaii boy. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this series! Is there anything you’d like me to talk about more regarding TXT? Keep enjoying storytelling in the meantime, and see me again on my blog
