Hi fiction lover! Are you looking for a show that will leave you tearing up, maybe even bawling after the most emotional scenes? Maybe you also want some laughter that will help you relieve stress. If you haven’t given a K-drama a try yet, I highly recommend them for their addicting plots and characters that will make you either want to kill or kiss them. One that I enjoyed recently was Queen of Tears. True to its name, it was a drama full of emotion. I couldn’t get enough of it! Here is my Queen of Tears Review.
My Queen of Tears Review
Our main characters here are Baek Hyunwoo and Hong Haein. If you read the little summary after Googling the show, you’ll find that the two are having a marital crisis. They must learn how to love once more. Although this might not sound like the most exciting premise at first glance, I promise that it will draw you in with each episode, until you’re fully invested in the future of this couple! Hyunwoo was once an entry-level worker, but he marries the president of the Queens Department Store, Haein (daughter of the wealthy Queens Group family). Their marriage doesn’t go as planned. In fact, you might even call it a bit of a disaster?
I have to talk about the chemistry between the protagonists, of course. At first, you might ask the question, how did these two ever love each other enough to get married? But with more and more backstory revealed, and more intimate moments arising, you might have a change of heart about this couple. I loved the quiet and tender moments between Hyunwoo and Haein. At first, Haein seems as cold as ice, but she reveals her tsundere personality later on (tsundere is a cold personality that makes way for an actual warmth underneath). Hyunwoo is such a capable main character. He is very smart to the point that his enemies fear him. And he’s loyal, loving, and grounded. We love to see it! He makes some extreme mistakes in the relationship, but we love an arc of redemption for him.
The side characters make this drama all the more riveting. First, we have Eunsung, who is also vying for Haein’s heart. We will not get into all the reasons why I wanted to punch him! Although, he is extremely attractive (I will not say more). Then we have Seulhee, who lives with the Queens Group, who will surprise you indefinitely. Finally, I have to talk about Dahye and Soocheol, who stole my heart with their unlikely love for each other. Hyunwoo’s family shows their devotion to him, and their interactions with the Queens Group family made me laugh out loud. One of my favorite moments in the drama was when the Queens Group family was “humbled” in a major way. It was priceless.
More Reasons to Watch Queen of Tears
I could talk so much more about each character, but that would be giving too much away. There are also so many moments that I loved. Again, I wish I could get into it! But I will say, Queen of Tears made me long for the marriage that I’ve never had yet! It made me believe that love could once again arise, even when things seem hopeless. There were some plot twists that had me scratching my head, but in the end I loved how everything tied together.
One of my favorite parts of watching was the “epilogue” at the end of each episode. This offered a little scene, a further glimpse into understanding Hyunwoo and Haein a bit better. Whether it was glimpses into the past or little parts that were omitted from the main episode, they tugged at my heartstrings so much. The episodes themselves are pretty long, about an hour and a half each, so it was hard to get used to at first. However, I can see why it was longer to really dig into the large range of characters.
The drama is true to its name, and you’ll be crying along with me to Queen of Tears. I loved Kim Soohyun in It’s Okay to Not Be Okay, and he brought all his emotions to this role as Hyunwoo as well. I am newer to watching Kim Jiwon, but she absolutely slayed as Haein and brought her coldness (and warmth!) to the next level. Are you going to watch this drama? Thanks for tuning in to my Queen of Tears review. Check out my blog for more and leave me a comment telling me what I should review next (as long as it’s fiction, I’m open to it!).
